MY SHORT STORY
"Everyone helped out, from junior to senior. And at the end of the next day, the client’s team expressed the benefits they saw and were motivated to continue. We solved the challenge as one team."
We had a full-week workshop coming up with the client’s team of ten people flying in from Asia. I was not supposed to be in the workshop, even though I had met the client on an earlier occasion. Monday morning I got a call that my boss, who was responsible for the workshop, had a high fever and couldn’t make it. One of my other colleagues was assigned to the workshop but needed help to take care of the big group.
I had other customer engagements that week, but rescheduled what I could and jumped into the workshop Monday afternoon. With me, I had a slightly less senior colleague, as well as the very senior founder of Modular Management. Due to the lack of preparation time, we didn’t know the topic very well and we got a presentation we had never seen before. The client had a somewhat negative attitude, questioning our way of working and the value it would give them as a company. We listened to them carefully and understood their need of seeing the bigger picture. We stayed in the office late that evening, creating material that would get the project back on track.
Everyone helped out, from junior to senior, and at the end of the next day, the client’s team expressed the benefits they saw and were motivated to continue. We solved the challenge as one team, out of loyalty for our colleague who was unwell and the values that Modular Management stands for.
