Q&A

"By shifting from a "one-size-fits-all" approach to product development to one more focused on the needs of the market, we can deliver better products to the market with fewer resources and less time."

First, Please Introduce Yourself

Early in my career, I was working on the initial design of an engine section in the shipbuilding industry. I saw a challenge, and leveraging the methodology and processes I learned there, I developed a new design methodology using 3D CAD and PLM for the industry. The modularity principles I learned during that time in my career were the groundwork that led me to Modular Management.

Which are the Main Challenges Facing Business and Industry Today?

Many industries in Japan derive value from offering a higher-quality product at a lower price than similar products on the market rather than developing and supplying original products. To create more advanced and original products, it is essential to develop products that accurately meet market demands.

How to do More with Less?

By shifting from a "one-size-fits-all" approach to product development to one more focused on the needs of the market, we can deliver better products to the market with fewer resources and less time.

Your Advice to Companies?

I strongly recommend that companies and products gain a global competitive edge by adopting a culture of "product architecture management" and "development management by project managers," which are not common in Japan.

What are Your Personal Drivers?

Having supported Japanese manufacturing for many years, I am knowledgeable on Japanese manufacturing approaches. One that has led to Japan’s strong position globally has been following the trends for Western products but manufacturing them smaller, lighter, cheaper, and with better quality. I’m passionate about how we can help Japanese manufacturers to re-establish their position with creative and innovative products.
